Your international health insurance for Germany

Anyone living and working in Germany with a temporary residence permit must prove that they have health insurance upon entry, and once more with every visa extension. This health insurance must meet the requirements of Article 15 of Regulation (EC) No. 810/2009 (Visa Code). Immigration authorities require written proof that the insurance coverage meets these requirements.

Our health insurance plans EXPAT GERMANY and EXPAT VISIT comply with legal guidelines and even offer coverage far beyond the formal requirements. This means that foreign guests and their family members are insured worldwide (including in Schengen countries) and, for a certain period, even in their home country.

Even if foreign nationals do not require a visa in Germany, they are obligated to obtain health insurance in Germany. Health insurance has been mandatory in this country for many years. Anyone working in Germany needs health insurance for Germany even before starting their job. The BDAE’s health insurance plans are specifically designed for foreign citizens working in Germany as freelancers or self-employed individuals.

Among others, BDAE insures the following groups of people:

  • self-employed construction workers and tradespeople
  • self-employed caregivers
  • scientists and lecturers
  • Employees of foreign government agencies (e.g. in the tourism sector)
  • Freelancers
