The top spring travel dates and destinations

Whether it's tulip season in Amsterdam, the Holi Festival in India, or the cherry blossom in Japan - spring attracts my holidaymakers and travel enthusiasts to every corner of the world. Despite the rising prices of many flights and hotels, spring holidaymakers can save money with the right strategy, according to the current Season Preview from KAYAK.

In this Season Preview, the travel search engine compares enquiry and price trends for flights and accommodation. Interestingly enough, many Germans will be travelling to faraway places this coming spring. For the months of March, April and May, there were around 118 per cent more enquiries for flights outside Europe than for spring 2022. Enquiries for flights within Europe have increased by around 85 per cent in comparison. That can be explained by the fact that many entry restrictions, especially in Asia, have slowly been eased.

The apparently increasing interest in long-distance travel is also noticeable in the prices. If you want to save money on your spring holiday, you should therefore know exactly which weeks in the coming spring have low fares in store - KAYAK reveals which ones.

The cheapest travel weeks in spring: an overview

In early March, flights within Germany cost an average of around 139 euros. Flights are likely to be cheapest in the week from 21 March to 2 April (with an average price of around 123 euros). Over Easter this year, the price of domestic flights is expected to remain stable (average around 129 euros). However, prices then rise week by week to reach an average of around 152 euros in the last week of May. The cheapest day for flights within Germany is Sunday.

The situation is similar for trips to Europe. Here, too, the weeks towards the end of March are favourable travel dates (on average around 162 euros). During the two Easter weeks (3 April to 16 April), however, prices for intra-European flights jump by up to around 35 percent. From 17 April to 7 May, good deals are once again possible (on average between around 170 euros and around 178 euros). At the end of May, prices rise again to an average of around 226 euros. For European travel, Tuesday is the day with the lowest average fares in spring.

For long-haul flights, average prices in spring are again somewhat lower than in previous weeks. Here, too, fares drop from an average of 666 euros (beginning of March) to an average of 588 euros in the course of March but climb to an average of 684 euros over the Easter weeks and then fall again from 17 April. A price plateau then forms up to the end of May, with prices between an average of around 567 and 583 euros. Tuesday is also recommended as the cheapest day to travel.
