How to find a great job abroad

Finding a new job can be exhausting and landing your dream job doesn't always work out. It helps to extend your search a little. For example, the chances of finding a job abroad are not bad at all. The experts at the Ukrainian platform Jooble know what to look out for.

For a job abroad, you need to be flexible and willing to leave your comfort zone. This may seem difficult at first glance, but there may only be a few hundred kilometres between the dream job and the person looking for it.

The good news is that there are agencies that make it much easier to find a job abroad. For those who want to try their hand abroad, there are various ways to find a suitable job – depending on age, education, and work experience. The paths to a career abroad are many and varied, and a few are presented below.

Internship abroad

For younger people who have just completed their education or are very close to it, an internship is usually a possibility. The most sought-after jobs abroad are often offered by international organisations such as the United Nations or the European Commission. IT giants such as Apple or Google are also eligible. Since these companies often have offices in Ireland, you can find an attractive internship there within the EU without having to travel far. Internships in the hotel and restaurant industry are also relatively common, especially abroad. A practical side effect: You can count on accommodation and meals being included.

Work and travel

The well-known US programme appeals especially to younger people. It is also popular in Canada and Australia, where age restrictions may vary. Work and travel is particularly suitable for those who want to explore a new country and finance their trip with an easy job in the destination country. At the same time, it offers the option of checking out career opportunities in the respective destination country and possibly taking the first steps towards emigration.

Exciting careers abroad

As an English speaker, you have good opportunities to find a job abroad. English language skills are in demand for many jobs abroad. This is the case, for example, in the following professions:

English teacher

A native English speaker is often one of the first requirements for teaching English as a foreign language. Although there are also local teachers who have studied English, it is always an advantage if teachers teach their own native tongue. The demand for this profession is very high, as English is one of the most sought-after foreign languages to learn. Everywhere in the world there are language courses and schools that offer English as a foreign language.

Tour guide

Guiding tourists can be very fulfilling. The job as a tour guide requires multilingualism, and since Germans like to travel a lot, there are also corresponding job offers in this field. In addition to language skills, abilities such as the ability to socialize and open-mindedness are required. And the best thing about the job: you can live for a while where others go on holiday.

Animal keeper

If you're passionate about nature, you can find a job in one of the many animal parks, zoos or nature reserves. And if you can imagine travelling beyond the borders of Europe for this job, particularly exciting options become available. In Africa or South America, for example, the chances of getting a job as an animal keeper are particularly good. Appropriate training and experience in this field are not always necessary, but they are helpful.

NGOs and charitable organisations

If you want to get socially involved, you can also look for a job with one of the many NGOs (non-governmental organisations) that carry out various projects in the world's poorest countries. Such jobs are usually not well paid, but the experience is generally very rewarding.

Freelance or location-independent work

Nowadays, more and more people are working location-independently. There are a number of creative professions that can be done from home, for example as a copywriter or web designer. Since the pandemic at the latest, home office has become very common, and significantly more people have discovered the advantages of location-independent professions. In the meantime, you can find more and more freelance jobs advertised all over the world.

To conclude: The possibilities to move to another country and find a job there are manifold. With the right skills and willingness to adapt, there are wonderful opportunities to discover the most beautiful corners of the world.
