How our website meets accessibility requirements

Status of compliance with requirements

Our products and services can be found, accessed and used by people with disabilities in the usual way, without any particular difficulty and, in principle, without assistance from others.

Our website is largely compliant with the BFSG and BFSGV. However, there are still some barriers on our pages that we are actively working to remove in the future. The following exceptions and incompatibilities exist:

The following content is not accessible as it is not compliant with the underlying harmonised standard EN 301 549:

  • Several pages contain images without captions. Navigation to the images using screen readers is difficult.
  • We have made sure that relevant images have alternative text. As a rule, care is taken to provide alternative text for images in all newly created content. However, there are historical images on the website for which no or little helpful text is (yet) available.
  • Some pages contain links without link text.
  • One page contains an “iframe” element without a label. Navigation to the iframe using screen readers is difficult.
  • On individual pages, there are form fields without labels. Navigation to the form fields with screen readers is difficult.
  • On one page, there are headings that have no labels or contain the aria-hidden attribute and are therefore not accessible to screen readers.
  • On all pages, there are invalid aria attribute values. These are not detected by screen readers and are therefore not output correctly.
  • Some pages contain tables that are not correctly structured. Not all table data is assigned to table headers. It is not always clear which table content belongs to which table header.
  • On several pages, a parent element is missing the appropriate child elements. This can confuse screen reader users, as content is expected but none is present.
  • On some pages, child elements are missing the appropriate parent element. This can cause screen readers to render the child elements incorrectly.
  • On several pages, there are particularly important areas that are marked with the “region” role but have no label. This prevents screen reader users from recognising the purpose and content of the area.
  • On individual pages, there are scrollable elements that cannot be scrolled using the keyboard. This makes it difficult for users of assistive technologies to view the entire page.
  • On several pages, there are interactive elements whose names are not part of the label. This makes it difficult to control the website using voice control.

The following content is not accessible, as this would lead to a fundamental change in the essential characteristics of the service:

  • On many pages, the contrast between text and background is too low.
  • Some of the main colours of our corporate design cannot be implemented with the required contrasts.
  • However, we have already adjusted many text colours and UI elements in terms of their contrast – provided that this did not completely change the overall impression of the corporate design. We are continuously working to further improve the contrast of the website.
